Last month MSG Chair Dr Steve Evans and Healthcare Group GP Dr Ed Partridge attended the Relocate to Guernsey show on behalf of the Guernsey Medic Network to promote the network and the support that it provides to those taking a career in medicine.
The event, hosted by Locate Guernsey aimed to bring together experts and professionals to help them discover why and how they can move to Guernsey.
Steve also delivered a talk on the islands healthcare system and how we are unique compared to the NHS, with a consultant only model and no junior doctors.
'The event went well.’ said Steve. ‘There were a number of attendees who were interested in learning more about the healthcare model on the island, many of whom had close links to secondary healthcare consultants working in the UK. The presentation on the island’s healthcare model was important and a good opportunity to explain how we are unique to many other healthcare models in the UK and other jurisdictions (surprisingly many islanders were unaware that we provide a consultant only service). Many people attended the stand looking for reassurance that Guernsey could provide the healthcare they required and were pleased to learn of the excellent standard of care we provide.’
‘I thought the show was good’ said Ed. ‘We were actually busier than I had imagined! Medical services are clearly an important consideration for people moving to Guernsey, particularly if they are retired, or have on-going medical problems. So, it was important for us to be at the show and having representation from primary and secondary care worked well.’
Thanks to both Ed and Steve for travelling to London on behalf of us all.
