THE ISLAND

Guernsey is a self-governing British Crown dependency located in the English Channel 90 miles from the UK south coast and 60 miles from St Malo in France. At 21 miles square, we are the second largest of the Channel Islands and are known for our many beautiful beaches, coastal cliffs with stunning views, fantastic healthcare, great schools and of course our world-famous Guernsey cows. We have a population of approx. 66,000 people.

HEALTHCARE ON THE ISLAND

As we are not part of the UK, we fall outside the NHS. We are one of three privately owned Primary Care Practices in Guernsey with approx. one third of the island’s population registered with each Practice. As patients are charged for medical care, we encourage them to take out private health insurance. The States of Guernsey provide some health cover for patients on income support. Secondary care including in-patient treatment is provided by the Medical Specialist Group. This specialist care is provided to patients free of charge under a Contract with The States of Guernsey. Patients can also pay to be seen privately if they wish. There is a general hospital with an Emergency Department and an onsite mental health facility. We have a separately staffed Out of Hours service who cover nights, weekends and Bank Holidays. OUR PRACTICE

Our friendly, pioneering and forward-thinking private Practice is actively engaged in the process of transforming health services in Guernsey. We operate a busy Practice with two surgeries (Queens Road Medical Centre and Le Longfrie Surgery), 10 GP Partners, 10 Associate GP’s and 15 nurses / HCA’s and are committed to delivering preventative services to improve the health outcomes of our 23,000 registered patients. We operate a traditional general practice that caresfor the Island’s population providing holistic family medicine with named patient lists. In 2020 we launched the first genomic screening programme in Primary Care for Familial Hypercholesterolemia with outstanding results. We are due to move into our new, fully renovated premises in August 2024. Compared to the NHS, our Practice boasts higher patient satisfaction rates and continuity of care, lower list sizes, excellent administrative support and higher GP autonomy.

WHAT WE OFFER

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for fully qualified General Practitioners who would be committed to moving to the island on a permanent basis. Special interests are welcomed as we are always looking to expand the services we offer. A recent innovation has seen a consultant colorectal surgeon offering services and minor procedures from our premises.
